Giveaway for Lori Holt Retreat

Quilt Market vendors were generous so we have more things to giveaway before our Book a Day Giveaway.  If you sign up for our Lori Holt Retreat you get your choice of one book, one Moda Candy, and  5 Collage by SUCH Designs fat quarters.

We were able to meet the designer, Carrie Bloomston and told her how much we love her new fabric line and patterns. I am excited that we ordered them. I can't wait to make the Nest quilt.

Moda Candy Hexagons

I have discovered a great use for Moda Candy, those tiny 2.5" fabric packs. They work perfect with the 1" hexagon papers. I took 2-100 paper packs and 2 Moda Candy (Comma and Happy Go Lucky).

I packed them for our road trip to Portland Quilt Market and blew through the 2 Candy packs in a few hours.
Lucky for me on Day 2 of market we found out if you quietly ask the designers at their booth they sometimes have Candy samples to give you. I ended up with about 8. I am keeping 3 and the rest is going into our Quilt Market Giveaway bundle.

You can see Potluck by American Jane mixed in there. I am so excited that she is rereleasing some of her past prints and we ordered the whole line plus precuts. We all told Sandy Klomp how much we love her fabric lines. She was very kind to our gushing.

I just cracked open the latest by Sweetwater and we ordered that line too.

Below is my handwork bag and it held all my goodies, thread, needles, tiny scissors and papers.  You might remember this bad from a Christmas post I did about bags I made as gifts. I kept a few extras (one for myself and one if I needed a gift).

About our Quilt Market Giveaway; I received about 21 signed books. I will be keeping 3 to make shop samples with and the rest I am giving to you! We will be giving away one book a day for a week and a few will be in our Grand Prize Bundle. The rest I think will be given to people who sign up for our Lori Holt Retreat in June. First come first served.

We are working on how to pull this off and will be starting with our first day this week so make sure you come back. It is going to be lots of fun. And boy, do we have some stories to share.

We're Back!

The Barn Chicks are back from Quilt Market!  We spent the last 5 days drooling over gorgeous fabric, inspired by awesome patterns, learning so much, and impressed by all those we met.  We're back and ready to sew!  Well....maybe after a nap!

Vintage Signature Quilt

I have always wanted to make a signature quilt. I have a small family so it wouldn't be too hard. We got this lovely vintage signature quilt int he shop on consignment and it has inspired me to move forward with my won quilt.

I am thinking it is from the 40's. Anyone know more about dating quilts?

Its has 12 blocks with a pick stitched name and 4 half blocks at the top (no names).

We all read over the names and marveled at the tiny stitches.
We are all fans of orange and the sherbet background was appreciated.

All hand quilted.

Teeny Tiny Hexagons

Look what amazing work in progress came in to the shop today. I was given permission to take a picture of her teeny tiny hexagon piece. It was too amazing not to share. I called Heather over to check it out as I knew she would love it too.

The paper pieced hexagons are very tiny. A quarter was put on there for perspective. And look at the yellow flower head pin for perspective too.

Have you ever seen anything like this? We jokingly asked if she was making a queen size quilt. This piece will be a wall hanging and the pattern comes from the book Quilts from Grandmother's Garden.

I don' think I will be making hexagons this small anytime soon but it has given me ideas on taking a paper piecing kit on the drive to Portland next week.

Scrappy Trip Quilt

We really jumped on the Scrappy Trip Around the World bandwagon. I made a twin size one for my daughter, Jenele made a queen size one for her spare bed, and Heather and many Quilt Barn friends made this one.
We had a sewing day and our friends helped out to make this quilt for our new retreat center, The Hen House.

I would make another STATW quilt in a heartbeat. They are so fun and easy. You can find the tutorial here.

New Precuts!

We love precuts around here!  They are so convenient to use and I love how you get every piece in the line.  They just create a fun scrappy feel to quilts!  We got in some awesome bright fabric!  Just in time for spring.  We got in jelly rolls, layer cakes, and charm packs of Snap Pop by Sandy Gervais. 

Light and airy and perfect for a summer baby blanket!

We also got in some Happy-Go-Lcuky precuts by Bonnie and Camille.  Their fabric never disappoints!  This time they added in a good dark blue, not quite a navy that really gives it some depth and helps it stand out from their past lines. 

We got in charm packs.

And also these adorable new precuts that are called Moda Candy!  They are 2.5 inch squares and give you just a taste of the fabric.  I'm thinking though that just like candy you can't just get/eat one!!!
