Fabric Friday Bella by Lotta Jandotter

We got in Bella by Lotta Jansdotter!  This Market picture of the Bella Booth is from Windham's blog, Snip-Its. De-lovely!

We got in all 19 bolts. I made little groupings for etsy. This is the teal grey bundle

 The orange grey bundle

 And the blue yellow bundle

A pattern sheet was tucked in to the shipment and Heather and Amy are making these quilts. I am sure they will kit some up for you. I'll let you know when they are ready.
We also have all the bolts on our webstore.

Chicopee Feather Bed Sneak Peek

Here is my Chicopee sneak peek. I used a jelly roll and I am following this free pattern
by Anna Maria Horner, Feather Bed.
I told myself I would make as many feathers as the jelly roll made. It made 27 feathers, about twice as much as I thought. So, that's almost a Queen size. If I have any odd numbers left over I think they will become a pillow.
All I have left is to square up the blocks and then sew the blocks together. I will have to see if we have a feather quilting pattern for the long arm. This one will hang as a shop sample but I think this one will come home with me when its all done.

You can find Chicopee precuts here and the yardage here.
Anyone else going bonkers for this line?

Bridget's Bagettes Zippered Pouch

We got this pattern in a few weeks ago and I was going to make one that day. Weeks pass and Heather brings in a finished zippered pouch. Love it! I was worried that it was going to be difficult and maybe that's why I didn't make one right away. Heather says it wasn't that hard to make.
I  want to make a bunch of these for Christmas presents. I can use up some of my scraps and stash.

A few Barn Chiks had a late night sew this weekend. It has been too long. We brought a bunch of stuff to work on, spread out and sewed like madwomen. I made headway on my Chicopee quilt, 12 hours worth, but I still have many more to go. I will share a preview tomorrow.

I don't know what the dot fabric is but the fab stripe is Cabana Blooms

Oh ya, Laura and I are talking about putting together a giveaway. Feels like we haven't done that in a while. Any suggestions?

New Fabric Chicopee!

I am in love. With Denyse Schmidt's new fabric line, Chicopee. There are 25 bolts in this line and we have all of them. Plus, precuts!
This is  Push Pop
And Relish.

Where I am from (B.C. Canada) relish is a big deal. I am assuming it is because the shelves are crammed with more relish options that seems necessary. Plus my mom always tries to buy it here and I have to break it to her that there is only the green kind. Anyone have thoughts on this? Canadians out there?

Back to this fabric, which I think is divine. I have my pattern all picked out. I want to  try a bit of it out first (it is kind of paper pieced) to see if I can handle it. Heather cut half yards of each one and I can't wait to see what she does with it. I, thankfully, get to use a jelly roll and I hope I can start this bad boy this weekend.

Anyone else cutting in to this line and what are you making? Do tell.

New Addition

We have a new addition to our etsy store, yarn! I am a busy bee today adding our stock to the yarn category. If you don't see what you are looking for convo me and see if its something we have.
Above is a stack of baby alpaca. It is sooo soft. I need a cardigan or lap blanket made out of this, it is divine.
Knitters, what is hot right now in knitting?

Salt Air Layer Cake Quilt

I have had this quilt top waiting for a binding for about a month now. Last week I machine bound 2.5 quilts (front only on one so she could hand sew the back) at work and I thought that would really push my quilt back. After doing 2 hours of binding I wouldn't want to do more. Turns out it was the motivation I needed to get mine done.

Like my last Salt Air quilt I had Amy quilt this one up with a bubbles pattern. Perfect, right?

Pumpkin Dish Towel

I am easily distracted. This is the conversation in my head, "stacks of projects to be worked on and finished? You should make dish towels instead. OK." Why not.

We got in a bunch of these towels and I had to make a pumpkin one right now. In addition to easily distracted add loves fall and Halloween.  So, I made my pumpkin towels and I am happy.

Back to quilting 3 quilt tops and binding on one. I may have to delegate. Amy?!!!

I put a few of these as kits on etsy and will have some in the store.  Happy Monday!

Project Peak

We are all mid-project right now. Also, I like to start several and have lots of UFOs going on. I'm working on this. I love starting but I need to wrap a few up.
I am almost finished this giant dresden quilt top. I have one more ring to go, its pink. I am thinking about hand quilting it with chunky perle cotton. I want to use a sheet for the back but it might be too thick to hand quilt. Anyone used perle cotton before? I would love some  suggestions.

And because several of you have asked for a pattern I am writing one up for the Peak Hour quilt.
Remember the Valentine Tree Carving quilt? I am going to be working a tutorial for that too. I had better to get to work.

Comic Book Messenger Bag

I finished the Messenger Bag and it turned out pretty good. The pattern suggests using canvas (and some fusible interfacing). I was skeptical but thought I should give it a try. I think I will stick with heavy fusible or fusible fleece. The canvas, while basted on to the fabric, still wiggled around and didn't lay flat. I also think I would like it better with a bit more stability to it.

I ended up using the green with teal dots. Tough call. Thanks everyone who gave their 2 cents. I like hearing from you!

Crochet Rag Rug

In our Vintage Children's Room window there are 2 round crochet rag rugs. They are easy to make and these ones are made out of vintage sheets. Each rug used 2 full flat sheets.

I like the distinct change in sheet color in this one. Its like a band around the edge.

I didn't use a pattern. I folded the sheet up so it fit on my large cutting mat and cut the strips about 2 inches wide. I used a very large crochet hook and started with about 5 single crochets. Join in the round and continue making single or double crochet. I kinda went by feel.

I found a pattern on pinterest and you can find it here

This is a good way to use up stashed fabric that you no longer like, isn't in style anymore or know you won't ever get to.

Giant Strawberry Pillows

Welcome back to another tour of our Aug/Sept Vintage Children's Room window display.
Today I am sharing with you our giant strawberry pillows. I found the free tutorial here at The Purl Bee. Their pillows are much bigger. I would have love to have made pillows as big as theirs but I was limited by my available yardage.

This smaller one is my favorite. So cute. If you make a giant strawberry pillow share a picture with me. I would love to see it.

Vintage Boy PIllow and Window Display

Now for the other window display. Our other window has a large iron bed and it stays put. It gets a new theme for window change day too. We have the girl's room all pretty but the boys needed to be represented too.
Like our vintage girl pillow we made a matching boy pillow using our t-shirt printer and white muslin. Isn't he sweet. He was made using a free image from The Graphics Fairy and tweaked in photoshop by Laura. He is backed with a blue reproduction feedsack fabric and stuffed with wool batting scraps.
Again, my inspiration was these pillows

The pillow next to him is a robot applique pillow from the book Curiosities and Mischief. I hope we get more books in because there are more cute pillows I want to make from it.

The bright quilt is also made from Curiosities and Mischief. The car pillows are simply wrapped in a piece of remenant fabric from the line Peak Hour.

The blue alien fabric is my favorite and Amy did a fantastic job with the gears quilting.

The bed bunting I made with the same Peak Hour remenant. No template, I just cut roughed out triangles with a long ruler. Each car was a different size so a template would not have worked. Each triangle was ironed on to a light fusible, stitched with a bright red thread and then sewn on to large green pompom fringe.

And since our boy pillow was printed using our t-shirt printer we thought in fitting that we try him out as a t-shirt.  If you have any questions about our t-shirt and fabric printing services convo us through our etsy store and we can arrange a custom listing for you. Or you can call us at 1-208-423-5092

Vintage Little Girl Pillow

Like many, many of you I am a big fan of pinterest. I saw these pillows and had to make one. They are darling. We have a t-shirt printer here at the Quilt Barn so I thought we could make something like it. Its been fun trying out this machine. It has been very busy this summer printing our sports, reunion, and summer events t-shirts but I knew it could print on fabric too.

I found a free image on The Graphics Fairy and Laura tweaked it in photoshop to get the image we used.

I used a reproduction pink feedsack fabric on the back. This pillow makes me ridiculously happy. It would be cute in a bright turquoise too.  Our girl pillow is sitting next to another girl pillow. This one is hand painted on (I think) silk. The lady who painted it, Hazel, lived to be 102. I'm not too sure how old it is but I am going to guess 1920's. If anyone has any info on what the age of this might be let me know.

The square pillow behind it is a scrap of muslin basted crazy quilt using feedsacks. The pieces are so tiny, maybe fifty cent piece size, all hand stitched.

The Dresden Plate quilt on the bed is from the book Material Obsessions. The folded quilt used as a pillow is Denyse Schmidt Single Girl pattern

Aug/Sept Window Vintage Children's Room

July is officially over so we needed some new window display at The Quilt Barn. We have been talking about window ideas for the rest of the year and we knew we had to have a vintage children's room. Laura and I worked on it early yesterday. Those windows heat up fast and we wanted to take advantage of the cooler morning.

We will be sharing more of our windows over the next few posts and linking to some fun free tutorials.
This window is our girl's room. The other window, the big iron bed window, is made up for a boy's room.
Stay tuned.

Also, Laura has put many of our retired shop samples in our etsy store. Pop over and take a peek around

PS, Laura is a new Barn Chick and we are very happy to have her. She is bringing her talents and enthusiasm to the Quilt Barn. Hopefully she will have her own Barn Chick cartoon up there standing with all of us.
