Quilty Barn Along with Lori Holt
We had a fantastic weekend retreat with Lori Holt from Bee in My Bonnet . Lori is such a great teacher.
And lookie, a Quilty Barn Along barn!
Are you following along with her free barn block tutorials? This a pretty exciting series you don't want to miss out on.
We have some extra fat quarter bundles left from the retreat and I listed them in our etsy shop. There are 21 hand picked fat quarters by Jenele. She has the best eye for fabrics and she made great choices.
She even cut out the paper barn tags. So cute
And here is Heather's tractor block. Swoon!
I have just a few extras of these kits left and they are in the shop too.
We have her new fabric line too, Bake Sale and a great selection of her patterns
Pop over to Bee in My Bonnet. You will be glad you did. It's one of our favorite blogs.
She wrote a lovely blog post about her stay. Thank-you Lori!

June Bed Window
Welcome to the second part of our June Window, the bed side.
I wanted to keep with a juicy pink color when putting together the bed window. There needed to be some cohesion with the Wedding in June window.
I had been working on a personal ironing table using a charm pack using a Happy Go Lucky. I am thinking of making this cute little ironing table in to a class.
I had a vintage iron stuffed in my pile of treasures in the garage and dug that out. That stripey cord is so cute
I knew the quilt I wanted for the bed but it wasn't mine. I saw this lovely quilt top hanging for Amy to quilt and we asked it owner if we could borrow it for a month. Thanks Kelli!!
I just love all these colors!
Now for head board fluffing. I bought a collection of white hats a year or so ago and have been waiting for the right time to use them in the windows. I wound a strand of white lights around the top of the metal heard board and tied the hats across.
The spot beside the ironing table needed something. I dug around in that garage of mine again and found a white chair. I painted it pink (of course) and covered the bench seat in a Denyse Schmidt decor weight fabric. I am kind of surprised that worked so well, mustard and pink.
There are a few more parts to the window but it is really hard to photograph. Darn plate glass. If you stop by let us know what you think.
Have a great weekend. I think I am actually going to find some time to sew. How about you? Got any sewing in the plans for the weekend?

Vintage Wedding Window
I posted a teaser of our June window and you all are so smart, you got it right away. Its a June Wedding.
The Mustard Seed in Twin Falls asked us if we were interested in a few vintage wedding dresses for our windows and we said a hearty "yes"!
I finished my Pickle Dish inspired quilt to go with Heather's vintage Double Wedding Ring quilt. The Pickledish quilt reminds me of the Wedding Ring quilt but with a modern twist.
Instead of sewing the curved solids background (as is in the tutorial) I raw edge appliqued the colored archs right on to the solid square background. I had run out of steam after making the archs but didn't want to waste all that time piecing.
I needed a cake for the window and was mulling over several idea. It needed to be easy and cheap.
I reused the old screen I had in the raindrop window and turned it on its side. I cut out 4 cake "layers" and sewed them on by hand right on to the screen. The cake is decorated with felt flowers, aslo sewn on. Can you tell its a wedding cake or was I too subtle?
Now, I can use the screen over again. Maybe a Christmas tree in December?
As usual, I wanted some sort of bunting across the top of the window. I didn't want to do anything I had already done and was brainstorming with Laura and we came up with a genius idea. We pulled fat quarters we already had on the fq wall and tied the corners together. Done, and it cost nothing.
The 3 white dresses on their own are a little pale for the window so I dressed the 50's dress up with a pink pompom belt.
Heather stippled her vintage quilt top with a tight stipple.
The Gunny Sac dress has received lots of attention. Many people remember this style of dress.
The 1950's dress is my favorite. It has a removable jacket.
The other tiny dress could be a first communion dress (second picture).
Has anyone been by and seen the window? What do you think? I am not on to thinking about the next window.
Next blog post will be the bed side window.

Hexie Flowers from Mini Chamrs
I'm addicted, it's a crisis.
On our drive to market I grabbed my sewing kit, a bag of paper 1.5" paper hexagons, and 2 mini chams (or Moda candy) . I pieced as we drove. Then I pieced while sitting at a junktique show. I pieced while waiting for the bus. And then I pieced some more.
I think I am about 7 mini charm packs in (mini charms are 2.5" squares).
I am going to machine applique the individual flowers on to a cream solid and then sew the blocks together. This is going to be a long term project. I am wanting it to be at least a twin bed size.
Anyone else get the hexagon bug?

Quilt Barn in is a Magazine!!
Quilt Barn is in a magazine, Homespun (an Australian magazine). And it is all thanks to (I think), Pinterest.
I posted a picture of the tree carving quilt I made for my mom and it went wild on Pinterest . We get many emails about the quilt, if there is a pattern or tutorial. We did put these quilts up in our etsy shop for custom listings and are thinking about creating a pdf pattern.
The (even nicer) quilt shown in the magazine is one Heather made as I had gifted the original to my mom.
I am very excited especially the nice story they included with the photo. That's my name and my mom! Big thanks to Homespun for including us!! Now, to find a few copies. One for me, my mom , and Heather. Has anyone seen Homespun in stores?
And sorry for the iphone screen shot. I am having trouble using the photos they sent us. I will replace it when I figure it out.
