Vintage Stitchery Find

I found these sweet little potholders at my favorite thrift shop, The Mustard Seed (shh, don't tell anyone). I am thinking they are mitten shapes.

The candy stripe binding is so sweet. I am thinking of tracing the shape and stitchery and try and recreate these to give as gifts.

I have quite a collection of vintage stitchery items. Many in so so conditions. I have been thinking of finally make something with them (instead of hoarding them in a box forever). I made this board on Pinterest for some ideas.

Also, how many boards and pins are too many. Like, she's gone off the deep end with pinning? I have 36 Boards (down from 41, 1043 Pins, and 401 Likes. Anyone want to share their Pinterest activity?

Organic Herringbone Baby Quilt

I think the half square triangle might be the most versatile quilt block ever. This herringbone version of simple half square triangles was new to me.

The pink solid, backing, and binding are our new Little Things Organic fabrics from Little Figs for Moda.

I used this free pattern by Anna Elizabeth Made

Amy usually long arm quilts my quilts but this was a small quilt (baby) and she is busy with Christmas deadlines so I did this one my self on my home machine. I did a simple echo stitch. I washed the quilt before bringing it back to the shop to display. The organic fabrics have a different feel (and smell, anyone else notice that?) and I wanted to see how it washed up.

Looks and feels about the same as non-organic fabric. Same crinkle after washing too.

Jenele made up some cute Little Things bundles. I have this one in our Etsy shop and will be putting the other 2 colorways we have in soon.

Anyone else feeling the pinch with sewing Christmas gifts? So far I am on top of things but I am sure I will find something else I just have to make before December 25.

Double Ring Hexies

After making 1000 hexies you would think I would have paper piecing out of my system. Nope. I am now on to double ring hexie flowers
Here is what I have made so far using scraps only

The backing of a half finished one. I don't go through the paper but sew a double stitch at each corner.

I have a goal of 35. I think I am going to try paper piecing diamonds to make stars next.

Did you hear? Cart are the new big thing in fabric.  Cats are the new owls. Jenele is happy.

My New Fave Quilting Tool

I love discovering a new quilting tool that I get really excited about, its the Quick and Easy Block Tool.

You get the patterns for 102 blocks in 5 sizes. Heather made the display board and included 4 of the 5 sizes of the star block.

This is such a great resource and now I want to make a scrappy quilt with all the blocks in all the sizes. I am getting a few for Christmas gifts too. Quilting friends can sometimes be hard to buy for.

Also, we have our Gift Certificates on sale until Thanksgiving, &100 for $80 and $50 for $45. Another great gift idea, they never expire, and you can even buy one for yourself!

Halloween Swap

I

I meant to share this with you earlier(like before Halloween was over). I am now deep in to Christmas sewing panic so it got put aside.

I participated in a Halloween Swap I found on Instagram and here is what I made for my swap partner.

Mini Boo Crew Quilt. I used this free tutorial.

The ruffled table runner was a make as I went pattern. I was sad to see this one go.

A pincushion with vintage button (the pattern is in the book, Patchwork Please). I think I will be making more of these as Christmas gifts for our Guild Christmas Party gift exchange.

A pinch pot holder. The pattern is from here in the shop but I am not sure of the name.

We had to include something from our State so I got an Idaho Spud and a Huckleberry bonbon.

Our Modern Guild meets here at The Quilt Barn once a month for fun, sharing, learning, and late night sewing. We always love to see new people so please stop by a meeting.

Vintage Iron Woes

So this happened. This was my cute little personal ironing table made from a card table.
I took it with my to The hen House to teach a class and as I was demonstrating an ironing technique I touched the iron to the fabric and it burst in to flames. The fabric burst in to flames. I stood stunned for a bit and then flicked it to the ground and stomped on it.

Um yah, kind of embarrassing. So, the lesson...vintage irons can get very hot. It probably overheated as it never did this before. Now what to do about my ironing table. I think I will just staple a whole new insul brite and pieced charm top over this burnt one.

Has this ever happened to anyone with vintage irons?

Happy Friday!!
