Rag Hexagon Quilt

 Sometimes us Barn Chicks get a wild hair and it takes everything not to close The Quilt Barn early so we can get started on a new project. We had one of those days last week.
 The beautiful Emily of Life, Etc. provided us the inspiration.  Her etsy store has these great rag hexagon quilts and we wanted to try making one.

Lori, Amy and I used our giant Go Baby and Heather cut her smaller hexagons using a ruler.
Heather's is the first one I have seen finished. I am almost finished putting on the binding on mine but I think I like how she left her binding off and made a raggy edge there too.

Heather used Sandi Henderson's Secret Garden. The other barn chicks and I used Flea Market Fancy.

My New Rowenta Iron

A few weeks ago my iron up and quit on me. I am used to irons not lasting long. A year, maybe 2 is what I expect. I thought that if my irons don't last very long then why pay a lot for one.
When my iron died I needed to replace it quickly. I sew every day and didn't want to fall behind.
I put a request out on our Facebook page for iron recommendations. Rowenta irons seemed to be well liked by some of you so I bought one. I paid more for this iron than I usually would but maybe my longevity problem was I was getting what I paid for.
So here is my thoughts on the Rowenta Iron:

-it does'nt have an automatic off feature. This could be a good thing. I get frustrated when my iron keeps shutting off on me. I like a hot iron, not a warmish one. I will just have to get into the habit of turning it off when I am done for the day.

-I can see how much water I am putting in. My past irons would just spill over when I had filled it leaving me with a soggy ironing board.

-it gets hot, really hot. For me, this is a good thing. And the steam is abundant.

-the cord could be a little longer. I could use an extension cord and solve this minor problem.

-I have been using it for a few weeks now and I have no complaints and so the Rowenta gets a recommendation from me.

Chic Baby Quilt

We have the cutest bolts here at The Quilt Barn and I have been trying to think of something quick and easy to  make up with these fabrics. It is Bunny Hill's Ooh Lala. Have you seen it?
The panel is the sweetest. I paired a panel with 3 Sister's Papillon for the border.

The binding is a grey dot (like in the panel sashing). Amy quilted this one for me and the pattern is a new one and is called Candlewick. I wanted something sweet and delicate and I think this works.

Chic Baby is currently at the HMQS in Utah (because I used an Autumn batting) but it will be in store if you would like to come in and take a peek. This is the easiest quilt ever and a great price, 24.99. I will put them in webstore and on etsy.

Flea Market Fancy Chair

Doug, Heather and Amy are going to HMQS this week. That's the Home and Machine Quilting Show in Sandy Utah. Its May 10-May 21
They will have a booth showcasing our new batting, Bosal. We are now wholesale distributors.
We have made up quilts with this new batting so you can see and feel how they quilted up. We'll have lots of kits there too.
I reupholstered this cute red chair with Flea Market Fancy, the perfect match I think. It might be there. We are trying out booth arrangements today.

Lori came up with a great class idea, a Father's Day apron. It is a fun and simple project suitable for any sewing skill level. And not just for Father's Day either. You can make this apron for anyone, even your self.
Wouldn't it be cute with that tool fabric and a wood grain pocket? Is Dad a football fan? We also have BSU and ISU fabrics.

Fresh Cut Love

I am always drawn to Heather Bailey's fabrics. Her newest line, Freshcut, is so light and happy. Maybe it's because I have 3 girls that I see her fabrics and all the possibilities for them.
 Like that stripe. Oh, that stripe. Swoon. I think it needs to be a skirt.  Four of them. My eldest daughter might object to the 4 of all all matchy matchy but I bet my youngest 2 would be on board.

I also need to make a quilt with this line just so I can use the stripe as a binding.
